Australian duo Empire of the Sun are again to announce Ask That God, their first new album in eight years. They’ve additionally shared the album’s newest preview, “Music on the Radio.”
Ask That God is Empire of the Solar’s fourth studio album and is due for launch on July twenty sixth. After taking a number of years off on a “sonic pilgrimage,” the duo are resurrecting their fantastical personas (Luke “Emperor” Steele and Nick “Lord” Littlemore) and are embarking on a “holistic musical journey” for Ask That God. “It has been a journey not like another that Empire Of The Solar has undertaken,” Littlemore says in an announcement. “We at all times ‘go there’ relating to exploration of each the self and the skin world… This physique of labor represents the best shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and that’s mirrored within the music.”
The announcement arrives one month after Empire of the Solar’s comeback single, “Changes,” which featured a psychedelic Michael Maxxis-directed music video. They’ve introduced again Maxxis to helm the visible for his or her latest single, the disco-tinged “Music on the Radio.” The track is a thumping, bass-heavy psychedelic jam, with Steele using his cherubic falsetto and the duo providing a hypnotic groove.

Ask That God is Empire of the Solar’s first album since 2016’s Two Vines and their first launch since 2017’s On Our Way Home EP. Whereas Luke Steele reemerged with a 2022 solo album Hearken to the Water, Nick Littlemore returned to his dance music trio Pnau, who scored a primary hit with their remix of Elton John and Dua Lipa’s “Chilly Coronary heart” in 2021.
