Thin Lizzy legend Scott Gorham has revealed that he inspired Adrian Smith to rejoin Iron Maiden in 1997, suggesting that the guitarist may substitute Blaze Bayley because the band’s frontman.
Again in ’97, the Californian guitarist guested on a track known as I am Alive on Welcome To The World, the second album from Smith’s post-Iron Maiden venture Psycho Motel, and in a brand new interview with eonmusic‘s Eamon O’Neill, Gorham admits that, on the time, he advised to Smith that he ought to think about rejoining Maiden as their vocalist.
Gorham freely admits that he is a “huge Adrian Smith fan”, and never simply due to Smith’s apparent skills as a guitar participant.
“He confirmed me the demos of that album he was going to document,” Gorham says. “I listened to his voice. I mentioned; “Adrian, why aren’t you singing in Iron Maiden? Having stood on stage alongside Phil Lynott for years, Gorham admits that he understood Smith’s reticence to step as much as the frontman function.
